Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a version of 34 Pilates exercises that were originally designed by Joseph Pilates. They form the foundation of Classical Pilates and have been practiced by die-hard purists, as well as other practitioners who have adapted the exercises and produced variations. What they all agree upon is that Mat Pilates can improve posture and alignment, flexibility and mobility - body control and body strength. Pilates has also been used to reduce back and spine injuries, providing rehabilitation through gentle strength training.

Mat Pilates is a group of exercises practiced on a floor mat, focusing on strengthening the pelvic floor, abs and back. These areas are collectively known as the core muscles. Developing optimum strength in these muscles can lead to better posture, stability and greater body control and body alignment. The exercises challenge co-ordination and balance, progressing to greater overall movement control - promoting greater flexibility and a healthier range of movement in your joints.

Body weight exercises Use of your own body weight as resistance, can be used with equipment, e.g. light weights and resistance bands, pilates rings and yoga blocks.

Mind + Body Co-operation/Connection Incorporating principles of breath control, concentration, precision -  seeking to reduce stress, promote body awareness and mindfulness. Pilates is transformative for mind and body - allowing you to energise your physical and mental well-being.
